STI Group joins Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)
In July 2023 STI Group joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Founded in cooperation with the Carbon Disclosure Project, UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature, SBTi strives for the global reduction and long-term elimination of CO2 emissions.
‘By joining the SBT initiative, we commit to sustainably transforming all our business activities and reducing our CO2 emissions in a transparent, measurable way – in line with the Paris Climate Agreement goals,’ says Jakob Rinninger, CEO of STI Group. ‘Not only are we leading by example, as one of the first medium-sized companies in the packaging industry to do so, it also positions us better to support our customers in achieving their climate protection goals.’
More than 5,000 companies worldwide are currently SBTi members. The initiative shows the amounts of CO2 that companies need to save in order to limit global warming to well below 2 °C compared to the pre-industrial era, with a target of just 1.5 °C as per the Paris Climate Agreement. To achieve this, greenhouse gas emissions must be halved by 2030 and reduced to net zero by 2050.
Award-winning sustainability
Independent assessment platform EcoVadis has confirmed that the company is on the right track with its sustainability commitments: in July 2023, STI Group was awarded silver again, recognising the corporate social responsibility measures it has taken across the entire company group. This silver rating places STI Group in the top 25 % of all companies assessed this year.
