The latest from the STI Packaging Design Challenge 2022
13 students
4 teams
3 briefings
2 companies
6 intensive workshops
1 look behind the scenes
1 materials training session
These ingredients make up the STI Packaging Design Challenge 2022, launched last October, with Prof. Steffen Schulz from the Münster School of Design and metacrew as project partners.
So far, the participating product and communication design students have been immersed in:
- adding value to snack food boxes
- alternative options for beauty subscription boxes
- rethinking folding boxes for natural cosmetics
38 prototypes and numerous concept sketches have been developed and professionally presented by the students in an interactive online session. Their focus is firmly on sustainable solutions that protect the product effectively, without forgetting the importance of a great unboxing experience – whether that’s digital or physical!
Now the competition really heats up. Our development experts are giving feedback, with hints on functionality and suitable materials, to help the students progress their best ideas.
Collaboration with universities is a long-held tradition by STI Group, and our experience with previous design awards show just how much value this can bring to all involved.
This challenge is the first to be run in a hybrid format, but will still deliver tangible results in the form of live samples; student designers will present these at the end of April, during a packaging workshop for customers at our Greven folding box plant.
