Pioneering sustainable packaging

At a virtual ceremony on 31st March 2022, STI Group and Vlastuin CDI were awarded Gold at the Dow Packaging Innovation Awards for their sustainable packaging for remote controls. The judges congratulated winners for their pioneering work in the packaging space.

Created by DuPont and continued by Dow, the globally renowned Packaging Innovation Awards recognise outstanding achievement and innovation in three areas: technological advancement, sustainability and user experience. The competition was a perfect fit for this successful international collaboration between US-based Universal Electronics (UEI), STI Group Asia Pacific and Dutch company Vlastuin CDI. 

The all-cardboard packaging solution eliminates the use of plastic blisters, yet still impresses retailers and shoppers with its premium appearance, product protection and careful use of resources. It also works with UEI’s existing automated packaging processes. 

When STI Group and Vlastuin first developed the new eco pouch in 2020, it was used for three models from UEI’s One for All remote control range. Having produced around 1 million units, this innovative solution has already saved over 20 tonnes of plastic while setting a new benchmark for electronics packaging.
