Outstanding performance at WorldStar 2020 for STI Petőfi

2020-05-06 –

In December, the WPO (World Packaging Organization) website published the results of its renowned international packaging awards, WorldStar.

WorldStar has grown into one of the WPO’s most significant annual events, with this year’s competition receiving a record number of entries: 321, from 36 different countries around the world. The four countries winning the most awards are Japan with 34, China with 22, Australia and New Zealand with a combined total of 13, and Germany with 12.

As this year’s Interpack exhibition has now been postponed and will instead run from 25 February to 3 March 2021, the WPO executive team led by President Pierre Pienaar has decided to cancel this year’s WorldStar Awards ceremony.

‘All of this year’s winners, including those in the Special Awards categories, will instead receive their trophies by mail – starting from the end of April,’ announced Pienaar. ‘Delaying and/or reducing the spread of the coronavirus as much as possible is a global goal, and WPO wishes to do all it can to support this aim.’

We are still delighted that all three of our WorldStar competition entries are winners of an award. These global accolades come on top of the packaging industry recognition already received in Hungarian competitions. Of all Hungary’s WorldStar entries, seven – from four different suppliers – have won an award. STI Petőfi is therefore proud to be the country’s most successful competitor.

Our elegant packaging solution for Hermes grass seed was recognised for its clever functionality: a tear-off side strip instantly transforms it from packaging to practical dispenser, carefully designed to enable grass seed to be sowed quickly and evenly.

The Nature Box Valentine’s Day promotional packaging scored highly for being simple, cost-effective and totally flexible. Using a themed promotional cap over the standard packaging increased shopper appeal yet reduced the risk of large scale packaging waste, supporting our client’s sustainability goals. We took this a step further by also recommending the use of PEFC-certified cardboard from sustainably managed forests.

Our third award-winning solution was the Schladerer velvet-touch giftpack, the natural, premium feel of its special material enabling it to really stand out from the crowd. Made from GC1 cardboard, a top tier F-flute material, it is then backprinted; the resulting unfinished surface has a unique, luxuriant look, ensuring the packaging reflects its premium contents.
