Packed with adventure
Huge 3D landscapes filled with surprises and secrets await the popular Italian plumber in Super Mario Odyssey, a new video game for Nintendo Switch. Far away from the mushroom kingdom, he must rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, who is planning a lavish, no-expense-spared wedding. Mario teams up with Cappy, a ghost who has taken the form of Mario’s trademark red hat and can be used for various attacks.
The game’s hero also stars in store, featuring on the POS designed to communicate the release in German, Austrian and Swiss retailers. The corrugated display consists of a base with die-cut figures that set Mario at the heart of his world, against a background that includes scenes from the game to help transport shoppers into the experience with him. However, the real centrepiece of the display is Cappy, which moves up and down thanks to an integrated motor. ‘Movement is incredibly effective at attracting attention and delivers real stopping power in store,’ explains Markus Weißgerber, Director of POS Innovation at STI Group.
Both shoppers and retailers were equally enthusiastic about the placement; the game sold more than 2 million copies in just the first three days. In many locations the POS remained in store longer than planned due to the high sales figures.
