Science Based Targets Initiative

2023-08-04 –

Reducing and ultimately eliminating CO2 emissions are crucial elements of STI Group's sustainability strategy. Since July 2023 our group of companies has been part of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), helping us to develop a roadmap to zero emissions using science-based criteria.

STI Group is one of the first medium-sized companies in the packaging industry to take the am-bitious step towards net zero 2050, which will transform our future economic activities in line with climate protection targets.

Over 5,000 companies worldwide are currently members of the SBTi, which calculates the amount of CO2 reduction companies will need to achieve in order to limit global warming in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The SBTi methodology was introduced by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), using a science-based approach with independent validation.

Background:
The 2015 Paris Agreement committed the world's governments to limiting the global temperature increase to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, while continuing efforts to limit warming to just 1.5 °C. Achieving this will require greenhouse gas emissions to be halved by 2030 and re-duced to net zero by 2050.
