Eco Management and Audit Scheme
ISO 14001:2005 / EMAS
The international environmental management standard ISO 14001:2005 establishes globally accepted requirements for environmental management systems. It can be applied to both producing and service-oriented companies.
ISO 14001 focuses on a continuous improvement process as the means for an organisation to achieve the goals it has set for environmental conservation. The continuous improvement process is based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology:
The STI Group has opted to orient itself toward this norm because it can be successfully integrated into the STI Group's IMS. The different STI Group factories are currently at different stages of implementation.
One alternative certification based on EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) is no longer being pursued, as that norm is limited to the EU and, despite the promise of reforms, remains tied up with an excessive amount of bureaucracy.
