Guitar Hero: Play the game!
Guitar Hero is musical gaming consoles experience that encourages players to take an active part in the fun by showing their chops on a special life-like controller.
The Guitar Hero packaging carton has to accommodate not just the DVD with the game but the guitar-shaped controller as well so that players can launch into their careers as rock stars.
'Going onstage' here involves strapping on the scaled-down instrument and gripping the guitar neck, which features five coloured buttons. Points are awarded for both fingering and strummed the right tones. The game has earned numerous international awards and is now in its third incarnation – meaning it needs an equally distinguished and attractive display.
The display design resembles a jukebox and conveys the product's concept immediately and visually from the first glance. The attractive display invites the passers-by to play with it and try it out. The permanent display is based around a metal pedestal clad with deep-drawn plastic parts. As a full-service partner STI Group handled not just the design and production, but the complete assembly as well, including mounting, cabling and functional testing of the X-Box, monitor and guitar. To prevent theft or vandalism, the X-Box is protected by a locking acrylic box that doesn't detract from the display's look.
The Guitar Hero display is both a demonstration centre and POS display in one. While the front side invites passers-by to test it out, the rear of the display features integrated trays containing sales units – a highly successful mix for the game's maker.
