An EU regulation is calling for all packaging on pharmaceutical products to include Braille script since 2010.

For the European Commission this was a key component in their stated goal of helping the visually impaired integrate into daily life.

The STI Group is well familiar with this requirement, as for many years the Hungarian folding box factory STI Petöfi Nyomda Kft. has been delivering Braille-marked boxes to the pharmaceutical industry. The STI Group has also been able to implement this standard in the area of F flute corrugated packaging as well.

Self-adhesive labels are an option for packaging that must be retrofitted with Braille script for special uses or target markets.

A special UV lamination is applied through a silk-screen process. Once the lamination dries, the drop-shaped paint takes on a raised structure. In this way the dot-based Braille system can be included on labels as well.

Shorter set-up times and higher precision

Simultaneously tooling costs could be cut down: the gluing machine uses a-one-piece tool instead of the die-cutter which needs a two-part-tool.
